How to Hire A Professional

Look for the logos!Why should you hire a Landscape Professional?The creation of a functional, sustainable and aesthetically rewarding landscape requires a series of combined efforts. Consider the following elements during the lndscape planning process to ensure the success of your landscape project. Check the following items off your list: - Refer to the Atlantic Landscape Membership Directory and Buyers' Guide - Look for the Logos - Provincial Association Logos and CHT (Certified Horticultural Technician) - Ask for a Workers' Compensation Board Clearance Letter - Ask for proof of the Contractor's Liability Insurance - Ask for references and for a portfolio of their work - Consider the Contractor's experience, design style and maintenance program - Ensure your contractor follows your provincials associations' specifications - Make certain you receive all quotes and projects terms in writing. Job OpportunitiesNURSERY MANAGER POSITION - Atlantic Canada A new wholesale tree nursery located in PEI is looking for a General Manager with the ambition and skills to develop the nursery into one of the leading suppliers of quality trees and shrubs for Atlantic Canada. Minimum of five to eight years of working experience, with at least two years in the position of Supervisor or Manager, are required. A solid understanding of the financial and marketing side of the business, as well as of production systems in an integrated field and container environment, are a must. The candidate should hold a diploma or degree in plant science, specializing in horticulture/ornamemental horticulture or in nursery management or have equivalent educational background covering the necessary areas of business and technical expertise, or be certified as a landscape professional by the CNLA. Compensation will reflect experience and will include commission or profit sharing. The position is open as of the Fall of 2009/Spring of 2010, with part time/consulting arrangement being acceptable during 2009.

We also need a skilled nursery worker with a diploma in plant science (horticulture), with certification as a horticultural technician from CNLA, or just having two or more years of experience working in a field and container nursery and with operating a greenhouse. Ability to handle mechanical equipment routinely used in a field nursery would be advantageous. Compensation will reflect experience. Position is available now and is full time seasonal.
